Our eternal life

Does God grant us eternal life as a gift, or must it be earned? If it is a gift, then it is not something that we merit or deserve or are entitled to. The Bible says clearly, “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23.
Second, is our eternal life yet to come? No, it is a gift to enjoy right now! “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” 1 John 5:11. “You who believe in the name of the Son of God . . . know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13.
Third, can I lose my eternal life if my Christian life is unsatisfactory? If so, then eternal life is something I must merit or earn. But the Bible says it is not earned - it is a gift.
Fourth, can I be robbed of my eternal security? No. Jesus says -
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand . . . and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand.” John 10:28-29.
Jesus announces this double guarantee to reassure us, comfort us, delight us.

Who provides our security? “The eternal God is your refuge” Deuteronomy 33:27.
