Faith in the Truth, Part 2

In AD30 the Roman Governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate, asked Jesus, “Are you a king?” Jesus agreed. He said he was a king who came to “bear witness to the truth.” John 18.37.
This may seem a strange answer to the question, “Are you a king?” But Jesus was drawing a contrast. Pilate was part of a kingdom that didn't believe in truth. The Greek literature had closed his mind because Greek and Roman religion was based on myth. Pilate, being convinced that you can't know the truth, said, “What is truth?” John 18.38.
Notice, first, because our Australian nation was built on the assumption that the truth can be known and must rule our culture, our nation's beginnings enjoyed a strong Christian influence. So our Constitution begins with this acknowledgement - “humbly relying on the blessing of Almighty God”.
Second, in a world of conflicting ideas, we have therefore had wonderful access to the truth through “the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3.15.
Third, do we want our nation to continue humbly relying on God? Then let's pray that “those who believe and know the truth” (1 Timothy 4.3) will have a strong influence upon our Australian way of life.
